Philipp Sulzberger baritone

Biography

Young German baritone Philipp Sulzberger commenced his vocal studies at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich and continued his studies in New York at the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute and in the opera program of the University of Nebraska.

During this time he studied under Ariel Bybee. Mr Sulzberger has participated in master classes with Marlena Malas, Phyllis Curtin and Gundula Janowitz. He has won numerous awards including the Soli Deo Cantorum Voice Competition and was winner of the district auditions of the Metropolitan Opera Awards.

From 2001 to 2003 he was engaged at Pittsburgh Opera as a Young Artist. During his time at the Pittsburgh Opera he performed numerous roles including Sharpless (Madame Butterfly), Publio (La Clemenza di Tito), Escamillo (Carmen), Schaunard (La Bohême), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Starveling (A Midsummer Night's Dream), Count Gil (Il Segreto di Susanna), and Liberto (L'Incoronazione di Poppea). He has been a guest artist with the Sevilla Open Air Festival, where he sang Escamillo, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Opera Omaha.
