Wings on Earth Quartet

Biography

This jazz ensemble was founded by the drummer Luigi La Marca. It brings together virtuoso musicians from the Lake Geneva area to provide concert and event promoters with a varied and interesting repertoire, performed to the highest standards.

Ursula Frueh vocalist turned to gospel and jazzafter initial classical music training. She formed her own jazz group in Neuchatel while singing with Jean-Luc Parodi, Francis Coletta, Thomas Moeckel, Juan Gonzalez and Albert Mangelsdorff. Ms Frueh has performed at the Willisau and Montreux jazz festivals. She has appeared at virtually all of Switzerland's jazz, blues and funk clubs, and toured Senegal with New Point. Ursula Frueh enjoys the fusion of traditional jazz with avant-garde, integrating swing, Latin and rock with African scat.

Roger Robert keyboards was born in Neuchatel in 1949 and started studying music at the age of seven. He was inspired by Boogie Woogie and first performed his own boogie compositions at the age of 14 in Neuchatel's Hot Club. He joined a local band, The Jazz Vagabonds, and further developed his musical talents at the Jazzland club, playing with visiting American jazz greats and other excellent musicians. Roger Robert is now considered one of the foremost jazz pianists in Switzerland.

Patrick Perrier bass guitar was born in 1965 to a family of musicians. He studied double bass at the Bern Jazz Academy and has performed with artists such as Merwin Africa, Patrick Moraz, Roy Orby, Paco Yé, Calvin Russel, Jeff Richman, Bruce Foreman and Kahled. He has recorded about forty discs, with singers, groups, big bands, brass bands and musical comedies, and has also recorded music for film and TV. He teaches bass guitar and theory at the Ecole de Jazz et de Musique Actuelle in Lausanne.

Luigi La Marca percussionist and composer was born in Naples, Italy. In 1956, at age six, he moved with his family to Switzerland. In 1971 he earned a diploma at the Bern Jazz Academy in percussion and piano, following which he undertook graduate studies at the Hollywood Musicians' Academy, Los Angeles. While in the USA he recorded twenty CDs and performed extensively on radio, television and on tour throughout the country. In 1991, after returning to Switzerland, Luigi La Marca formed the eleven-piece Latin band Cana Dulce, and, more recently, his jazz ensemble Wings on Earth. In addition to his busy performance schedule, Mr La Marca is a respected member of the music faculty at Aiglon College in Villars, where his musicianship, expertise and enthusiasm have been appreciated for ten years. In May 2006 he composed Ring around the Moon for the Aiglon Drum Trio.
