Renowned Music Critic Appointed to Advisory Board

The Swiss Global Artistic Foundation has appointed writer, critic and musicologist Bernard Jacobson to its Advisory Board. The Oxford-trained scholar has written for Fanfare Magazine and the Chicago Daily News, and his publications include A Polish Renaissance, and entries in Encyclopedia Britannica and The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians. He frequently performs in concert as a narrator, often to works of his own translation.

Swiss Global Artistic Foundation Represented at Noted Australian Event

Swiss Global Artistic Foundation Director Heather de Haes and Advisory Board member Dr Peter Tregear attended a dinner celebrating the opening of the Australian branch of the London-based Australian Music Foundation. The event took place at the Admiralty House, the official Sydney residence of the Governor-General of Australia, and included Ms de Haes as a featured speaker. As Trustees of the Foundation, Ms de Haes and Dr Tregear organised the dinner and musical entertainment, which was provided by Laurence Meikle, baritone, and Amir Farid, piano. Additional distinguished guests included Sir Charles and Lady Mackerras.

Jours des Arts IV Acclaimed as Best Yet

The Jours des Arts festival, known for its world-class musicians, stimulating lectures and sumptuous cuisine, all nestled in an idyllic setting, presented its fourth edition in September. Entitled Impressionism and Beyond, this year's festival, perched high in the Swiss Alps in the picturesque town of Glion, was rated afterwards as the best thus far.

Patron Don Pedro Serra Donates Art Collection to the Foundation

Don Pedro Serra, Patron of the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation, eminent Majorcan media leader and Chairman of Grupo Serra, donated a collection of significant Spanish lithographs to the Foundation. The magnanimous gift was in recognition of the Foundation's continuing work in promoting the careers of exceptional young performers and artists.

Patron Don Pedro Serra to be honoured in Montreux

The Foundation's new Patron, Don Pedro Serra of Palma, Majorca, will be honoured in Montreux on Wednesday 26 September at a reception to be held at the apartment of Foundation Director Heather de Haes, followed by dinner at the Hotel Victoria in Glion.

Musical interludes will be performed by Matthew Garrett tenor and Stephen Delaney piano.

The occasion will also mark the inaugural performance of Ms de Haes's new Bösendorfer piano.

India-UK Cultural Links remembered

This year sees the 60th anniversary of India's accession to independence as a republic. A series of events are being held to celebrate the date.

India has forged close cultural and historic links with the United Kingdom over the centuries and Michael Green, Public Relations Advisor to the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation, and an authority on Indian art and history, was recently interviewed by Meridian TV in the East Sussex coastal resort of Bexhill-on-Sea, where many buildings still bear witness to the epoque of the Raj.

Foundation pianist to be a Young Artist at "PianoTexas"

Vladimir Guryanov, an 18-year-old Russian pianist and Foundation artist now studying in Basel, has been awarded a full scholarship to attend PianoTexas in Fort Worth, from May 23-July 1. (Click on the date above for more about PianoTexas.)

The Swiss Global Artistic Foundation, which presented Mr Guryanov to its Friends at the Villa Principe in Lugano last December, is pleased to assist with his participation by covering his travel expenses.

Lady Jeanne Galway announced as a Patron of the Foundation

The Swiss Global Artistic Foundation proudly welcomes Lady Galway as a Patron with her husband, Sir James Galway and our other distinguished Patrons, Sir Jack and Lady Lyons, Anton Mosimann OBE and Don Pedro A. Serra.

Lady Galway is a renowned flautist, appearing around the world as a soloist, in duet with Sir James and as a teacher and advocate of the flute.

Artists to be introduced at New York launch of American Friends of the Foundation

At the Launch of the American Friends of the Swiss Global Artistic Foundation--"An Evening of Rachmaninov" at the Lotos Club in New York City on Sunday, May 20--we will welcome four fine young artists to the Foundation's roster: pianists Andrey Ponochevny of Belarussia and Natalia Katyukova of Russia, the Swiss tenor Gilbert-Michel Rolle and the American accompanist Djordje Stevan Nesic. They will join Matthew Garrett, the American tenor, and the Korean violinist Hahn-Bin (accompanied by John Blacklow), who have been Foundation artists for some time.

The evening will commence with cocktails and a viewing of sculptural ceramics by the British artist Paul Philp. Lord Poltimore, Chairman of Sotheby's (London) will speak on cultural and artistic trends in Russia during the Rachmaninov era and Dr Tamás Ungár, Executive Director of PianoTexas, will introduce the musical recital.

Celebration dinner in Majorca

The Swiss Global Artistic Foundation recently hosted a celebration dinner in Palma, Majorca, in honour of its patrons, the eminent flautists Sir James and Lady Jeannie Galway, who were performing there at a concert in the presence of H.M. The Queen of Spain.

The Foundation's new Patron

The Swiss Global Artistic Foundation is delighted to announce Don Pedro A. Serra as a Patron, joining Sir James Galway, Sir Jack and Lady Lyons and Anton Mosimann OBE.

Don Pedro is one of the world's foremost art collectors, with an emphasis on Picasso, Miró and other leading Spanish artists. He is Chairman of Grupo Serra, Majorca's largest media company.
